Decadent Raspberry & Chocolate Salted Brownie Sundae: The Best Mess You’ll Ever Make!
There are some culinary creations that transcend mere food; they become experiences. And then there are those glorious, utterly irresistible dishes that we affectionately dub “the best mess.” This Raspberry & Chocolate Salted Brownie Sundae falls squarely into that latter category, and trust us, it is undeniably the best mess in the entire world. It’s a symphony of textures and flavors – warm, fudgy brownies, cold, creamy vanilla ice cream, bright, tart raspberry compote, rich chocolate sauce, and a surprising, delightful sprinkle of sea salt to tie it all together. Every spoonful is a journey of pure, unadulterated indulgence, demanding to be savored without a care for neatness.
Embracing the Glorious Mess: Why Some Foods Are Better Untidy
Think about it: some of the most iconic comfort foods are inherently messy. Take poutine, for example – a glorious heap of fries, cheese curds, and rich gravy. Or s’mores, with their sticky, gooey marshmallows and melted chocolate oozing from graham crackers. And what about a burger piled high with tons of cheese, crispy bacon, tangy ketchup, and every other topping you can possibly imagine? These aren’t just meals; they’re an experience, often requiring extra napkins and a willingness to get a little delightfully messy. You see my point, right? The very act of digging into something wonderfully untidy adds to its charm and deliciousness. This brownie sundae captures that same spirit – it’s a delightful whirlwind of flavors and textures that simply cannot be contained, and that’s precisely why we love it.
The Ultimate Comfort Food Companion: TV Shows and Sweet Treats
Speaking of glorious messes, can we talk about how suddenly all my favorite shows have returned, or are about to make their grand comeback? It’s a delightful, yet slightly overwhelming, “mess” of entertainment. I looked at my DVR recently and realized I’m recording waaay too much – but who can resist? Among them, the return of Hell’s Kitchen is what I’m reallllllllly excited about. I know, I know, some people find Gordon Ramsay a bit much. But honestly, I’m one of those who absolutely loves him. I even kind of love how angry he gets! Though, if I were ever on the receiving end of one of his legendary rants, I’m not sure if I’d curl up in a corner and cry or just burst out laughing. It’s an unpredictable, entertaining mess of a show!
This feeling of joyful chaos with all the shows returning perfectly mirrors the beautiful chaos of this sundae. Just a mess of awesomeness, ready to be devoured. It’s the perfect companion for an evening of binge-watching, a cozy night in, or simply unwinding after a long day. If I could curl up with one of these magnificent sundaes every time I sit down to watch Hell’s Kitchen, I think my life would be made FOREVER. That perfect blend of sweet, salty, and tart is simply incomparable. You know what I mean, right? Just pretend you do!
Crafting Your Own Raspberry & Chocolate Salted Brownie Sundae: A Guide to Deliciousness
Creating this “best mess” isn’t complicated, but it does involve a few simple steps to ensure maximum deliciousness. The key lies in the quality of your ingredients and the balance of flavors. The homemade fudgy brownies are the star – rich, moist, and chocolatey. They provide the perfect base for the contrasting elements. Then comes the cooling embrace of vanilla ice cream, acting as a canvas for the vibrant raspberry compote and the silky chocolate sauce. And that sprinkle of salt? It’s not just a garnish; it’s the secret ingredient that elevates every other flavor, making the chocolate richer and the raspberry brighter.
Tips for the Perfect Brownie Sundae Experience:
- The Brownies: While the recipe provides a fantastic brownie, feel free to use your favorite homemade brownie recipe or even a good quality boxed mix in a pinch. Just ensure they are rich, fudgy, and cooled completely before assembling the sundaes. Chilling them for at least two hours makes them easier to crumble and creates a wonderful temperature contrast with the warm sauces.
- The Raspberry Compote: The linked Smashed Raspberry Compote recipe adds a beautiful homemade touch, offering a fresh, tart counterpoint to the sweetness. If you’re short on time, a high-quality raspberry jam or even fresh raspberries lightly muddled with a touch of sugar can work.
- The Chocolate Sauce: Homemade chocolate sauce is surprisingly easy and makes a huge difference. The recipe provides a simple, rich sauce that stays wonderfully pourable. You can also experiment with a dark chocolate ganache for an even more decadent experience.
- The Ice Cream: Classic vanilla is recommended as it allows the other flavors to shine, but don’t hesitate to get creative! Chocolate, coffee, or even a raspberry swirl ice cream could be excellent variations.
- The Salt: This is crucial! A flaky sea salt like Maldon or a good quality kosher salt is best. The larger crystals provide bursts of salty goodness that cut through the sweetness and enhance the chocolate and fruit notes. Don’t skip it!
- Assembly: The beauty of a sundae is its customizable nature. Start with a layer of crumbled brownie, add a scoop (or two!) of ice cream, then drizzle generously with both raspberry and chocolate sauces. Repeat layers if your bowl is big enough! Finish with a fresh raspberry and that essential sprinkle of salt.
Variations to Experiment With:
- Nutty Crunch: Add chopped toasted pecans, walnuts, or almonds for an extra layer of texture.
- Coconut Dream: Sprinkle with toasted coconut flakes for a tropical twist.
- Espresso Boost: Add a tablespoon of instant espresso powder to your brownie batter or a tiny dash to your chocolate sauce for a deeper, more sophisticated flavor.
- Boozy Indulgence: A small splash of raspberry liqueur or Kahlúa in the respective sauces can add an adult touch.
- Whipped Cream Mountain: For the ultimate classic sundae experience, top with a generous dollop of freshly whipped cream.
Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, treating yourself after a long week, or simply indulging in a moment of pure bliss, these Raspberry & Chocolate Salted Brownie Sundaes are guaranteed to hit the spot. They are an unforgettable dessert that embodies joy, comfort, and the undeniable appeal of a truly magnificent, delicious mess. So go ahead, embrace the mess, and dive into a sundae that truly makes life feel “made forever.”

Raspberry & Chocolate Salted Brownie Sundaes
ingredients
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups sugar
- 8 oz dark chocolate chips
- 8 oz unsalted butter melted
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 eggs lightly beaten
- 1 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 cup Smashed Raspberry Compote
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 stick unsalted butter 4 Tbsp
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8×12 inch pan and line with parchment paper, leaving the paper hanging over on the two long sides.
-
Sift flour and cocoa powder into a medium bowl. Add the sugar and chocolate chips and stir together. Make a well in the center and pour the melted butter in the middle. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir until everything is combined.
-
Pour the brownie batter into the pan and bake for 50 minutes (it should still be a little soft in the center). Chill for at lease two hours before removing from the pan.
-
Heat the milk in a medium saucepan until simmering. Add butter and light corn syrup, heat until the butter is melted. Pour the chocolate chips to a separate bowl and slowly pour the warm milk mixture over the chocolate, whisking constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Add the dipping chocolate back to the saucepan and keep warm over low heat.
-
Crumble portions of the chilled brownies into two bowls (you can use as much or as little brownie as you would like!). Divide vanilla ice cream evenly between two bowls. Drizzle the raspberry sauce and chocolate sauce over the top of each sundae. Top with a raspberry and finish with a generous sprinkle of salt.
